REVIEWS

"Here we have yet another rarity, as far as this reviewer is concerned: a release that has not one dud implanted in the middle somewhere to blow the entire experience... Happy Gloom would probably best describe this body of work, with bits of dark, psychedelic strokes thrown in. Or painted on. The intelligent arrangements, lack of pretentious glitz, and ultra clean rules any and all nonsense out, leaving songs that are focused almost to the point of being small vignettes culled from some vast musical production. Imagine five candles, all different in color. As they burn and melt (in your thoughts) they produce a swirling, delightful wax residue, that is in turn, transformed into huge heaps of pure sonic delight..."

"I must admit to being a little sceptical about receiving this tape when Michael Homyk (head Crayon boy) described it as a Pink Floyd-esque/Hendrix sort of sound. Me not having any fondness for retro stuff, put a question mark over this cassette head. However, this has more in common with the trippier side of Janes Addiction then the former. It's well structured song writing, some nice quirky changes and smooth clean production. It's also very catchy! One thing you cannot fault is the song writing. I think Michael is more than capable of penning a few hits in the near future. Then we can start dissing him for selling out and becoming a rock star..."

"From his home studio in Ohio, Michael Homyk gives us a six song demo oozing with raw talent. Well-written and tightly arranged tracks make up this debut cassette. A brilliant song writer and lyricist, Michael fills this tape with obscure instrumentation and unparalleled vocal versatility. With songs that defy classification and incorporate an eclectic hybrid of dark yet upbeat music, we are taken on a wonderful journey into the new sound of rock, the colorful world of the Crayon Theatrical."

Working as a solo artist or as leader of The Crayon Theatrical, Michael John Homyk blends an eclectic musical style with poetic and imaginative lyrics to create his unique art and music. His music often contains lush instrumentation with a variety of sounds to create certain moods and feelings. His lyrics are introspective and usually deal with life, beauty and the ideals and experiences of youth.

Michael is a fine guitar player and home engineer from Lebonon, Ohio. He owns his own publishing company called Scabby Brooks Music and records all of his music in his own 8 track studio. He has various projects available on cassette and is currently working on a new CD release.
