These forms are used to determine the cost of building a residential home. The individual must review and convert a set of blueprints or complete set of plans into an accurate estimate to build the home. These sheets are designed to aid in preparing the individual with bids and accurate material and labor estimates.
The task of preparing an accurate list of material requirements for a given residential project can be difficult. It is recommended to take the plan to several lumber yards, or like, to get a complete lumber package cost. It is usually less expensive to get the bulk of your lumber products from one supplier or location. The list of building materials in any home is much too large and detailed for any one person to calculate. For this reason, a proper estimate sheet should always be used when making a material cost list and should show all the items required in the form of a check list, thus reducing the possibility of forgetting any item.
The responsibility of accuracy is on your shoulders. Do not be afraid to ask any question of anyone that you are dealing with. Research each proposal from any sub-contractor and it is recommended that you get several quotes for every item that you sub-contract or purchase. Ultimately, you will learn from each sub and can determine which sub-contractor or vendor you will use. You must talk to a lot of people, ask many questions, take accurate notes and put together the information and prices on the estimate sheet.
